Unnao Woman Found Dead in Lucknow; Note Naming Four Men Sparks Murder Probe
A 25-year-old woman from Unnao was found dead near Lucknow’s Kisan Path underpass, triggering a murder probe. Police recovered a note naming four men and carrying a four-digit number as investigators examine CCTV footage and her final movements.
Police said injury marks were visible on the victim’s face, and preliminary observations suggested that she may have been strangled before her body was dumped along a service lane near Kisan Path. However, the exact cause of death will be established through a post-mortem examination.
The victim, identified as Asiya alias Tina, was a resident of Safipur in Unnao. Her body was discovered near the Saidpur village underpass on Saturday night after a passerby alerted the police at around 9.30 pm. Officers reached the spot and launched an investigation.
A bag recovered near the body helped investigators establish her identity through her Aadhaar and PAN cards. During a search of her belongings, police also found a handwritten slip carrying the names of four young men and a four-digit number.
Investigators have not disclosed the names written on the slip and are examining whether the note is connected to the murder. They are also exploring the possibility that the number could be linked to a vehicle or provide another lead in the case. However, no connection has been confirmed so far.
An FIR was registered at Dubagga police station on Sunday following a complaint by the victim’s elder sister, Nasreen Bano. The case was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections relating to murder and destruction of evidence. In her complaint, Nasreen alleged that an unidentified person had killed her sister and dumped her body to conceal the crime.
According to the family, Asiya had been staying with Nasreen in Nawabganj, Unnao, for about a month. On October 24, she left the house at around 12.30 pm, telling family members that she was going to Safipur. When she failed to reach her destination, her relatives began searching for her. Hours later, they were informed that her body had been found in Lucknow.
Police are now attempting to reconstruct Asiya’s movements between the time she left her sister’s home and the discovery of her body. Investigators are scrutinising CCTV footage, examining the people she was in contact with and analysing the handwritten note recovered from her belongings to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Shakeel Ahmad said the woman was wearing a burqa when her body was found. He added that, based on the preliminary examination, the body appeared to be five to six hours old.
The investigation is continuing, with police examining the available evidence, the victim’s movements and the possible significance of the names and number recorded on the handwritten slip.
